| Description: | 'Autumn Fire' features tight, attractive, fleshy light green foliage that is good looking even when the plant is not in bloom. The flower buds start in mid summer, bold clusters of closely packed, rosy pink flowers appear in late summer, age to a salmon bronze and finish with a deep coppery red in fall. Every stage of flowering is attractive, even the old rusty flowerheads. This selection is very similar to the older variety 'Autumn Joy', but was selected for its tighter growth habit, thicker foliage, and more brightly colored flowers. Tall, upright sedums form substantial clumps which can be substituted for shrubs in the landscape. Their stout, sturdy stems support the massive flower heads which develop in summer and burst into bloom in fall. If left standing, they provide winter interest and food for birds. |
