Description: Coneflowers are great garden plants. They bloom for a long period during the summer with showy flowers in a variety of colors. New introductions have been made recently that have greatly broadend the horizons of the color palette. No longer is it limited to pinkish-purple and white, now we have yellows, oranges and many other shades to choose from. Many have fragrant flowers. Stems are also sturdier, plants more compact. We will keep you updated as we test the newest varieties and pick our favorites. All plants thrive in average soils and hot, dry conditions; they also shrug off winter cold. The cone at the heart of the flower turns black as the seeds mature, adding further interest and providing nourishment for goldfinches over the winter. All Echinaceas make excellent cut flowers.
